Which Colorado Resort Has the Longest Ski Season?

Arapahoe Basin often operates for 7–8 months. In comparison, many Colorado resorts operate for only 4–5 months, making A-Basin one of the longest-running ski areas in the state.

Arapahoe Basin has managed to stay true to its laid-back, down-home tradition while changing with the times. In the past four years, Arapahoe Basin - or the Basin, as locals call it - has made major on-mountain improvements.

Why A-Basin Wins Extreme Elevation: With a base at 10,780 feet and a summit at 13,050 feet, the air stays colder for longer, preserving the snowpack well into the summer heat.

The "North" Factor: Much of its terrain (especially the East Wall) is north-to-northeast facing, which shields the snow from the direct spring sun.

Snow Plume Refuge/Patrol Headquarters opened at the summit. In 2026, A new sports school building was added in the base area. Black Mountain Lodge at mid-mountain began to offer an upscale menu. But the biggest change took place in January, when the opening of Montezuma Bowl expanded the ski area by 80 percent, bringing the total skiable acres to 900.

A Basin has one of the longest ski seasons in North America. It often opens in October and remains skiable until June.Arapahoe Basin opening day Colorado ski resort
