Breckenridge
Breckenridge Colorado started out as an old mining town during the 19th-century gold rush. It has maintained its Victorian charm today, as seen in the historic buildings along and around Main Street.
It represents "genuine Colorado", with a "real" town at the base of a world-class ski resort. Within the quaint architecture, modern shops offer everything from art galleries and clothing stores to great restaurants and bars. The town even boasts a Nordic center, state-of-the-art recreation center, ice rink and award-winning theater (The Backstage Theatre).
In 2006, the ski resort installed the highest chairlift in North America, whisking riders to 12,840 feet. Then, it built the BreckConnect, a gondola that sets the stage for future development of Breckenridge's Peaks 7 and 8 and connects the resort with the town. It also made a Skiway - a ski run, connecting the ski area with the parking lots in town.
During the ski season, Breckenridge brims with events, including the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix, Spring Massive Festival and Ullr Fest, a rousing celebration of the Norse god of snow. In the summer, the town comes alive with classical and contemporary musical acts at the Riverwalk Center.
