                                     Breckenridge Historical Tours

Think Breckenridge is all about the skiing?  Think again!  Let the past come alive on Breckenridge historical tours.

Some 150 years ago the earliest settlers of Breckenridge came to this area in search of gold.  Gold they found aplenty and for decades Breckenridge was one of the most important mining areas in the state of Colorado, a state well known for its mining activities.  Although most of Breckenridge's importance as a mining area now lies in the past, you can experience the history of Breckenridge on Breckenridge historical tours.

If you'd like to get an up-close and personal look at the practice of historical gold mining, you'll definitely want to check out the Country Boy Mine.  Country Boy Mine offers the only authentic gold mine tour within Summit County, and is truly an experience that can't be beat.  One of the most popular Breckenridge historical tours it is even recommended by the New York Times.

But Breckenridge's history goes far deeper than just a single mine.  Its historic downtown is a testament to the willpower and determination of Breckenridge's first settlers.  Many of the original buildings still stand here in this one of a kind downtown.  See some of the earliest homes built in Breckenridge along with old churches, schools and of course the historic courthouse.

For those looking for guided Breckenridge historical tours these tours are readily available.  Learn about the heritage of Breckenridge as you are lead through this historic district and visiting all the sights that Breckenridge has to offer.  For those who'd rather go at their own pace you can also take self-guided walking tours through the historic district.  You can find self-guided tour brochures available for free at the Activities centers and at Town Hall.

Besides the primary walking tour you will also find a number of museums and other historical points of interest in Breckenridge.  Among the other Breckenridge historical tours you will find the Barney Ford House Museum.  Barney Ford was an escaped slave thanks to the Underground Railroad and came west to start his life anew, becoming famous not only in Breckenridge but throughout the west.  Exploring the rich history of this important house is free of charge.

You will also find Silverthorne House Museum in Summit County, dedicated to preserving how life was lived in the early years of Silverthorne and the lower Blue River Valley area.  The history of this museum goes back far into the area's history, long before Silverthorne was even incorporated.

Can't get enough of Breckenridge historical tours?  You can also visit the Breckenridge, Valley Brook Cemetery.  Many of Breckenridge's earliest settlers found their final resting place in this cemetery.  Guided tours cost $3.00, but are only available at certain times of the year.  Visit the resting places of some of Breckenridge's most prominent early citizens and learn all about their most famous deeds (and misdeeds) in this fascinating tour of Breckenridge history.

One of the newest attractions is also the Main Street Historical Museum.  Open 7 days a week and absolutely free of charge, it is just another great way to experience the history of Breckenridge
