The skiing in top quality at Summit County and people come from all over the world to experience the Breckenridge skiing. For people in search of a more traditional sport in the high altitude of Summit County golf is also exquisite. As one would expect in a region generously dotted with resort towns, most of the fees are rather steep. However there are two unique, well respected and beautiful courses are located here that are more reasonable at less than $100 per round.
For a more casual golfing experience, try the Copper Creek Golf Club in Copper Mountain. This course is a traditional 18 hole course that is good for novices and more advanced players. The front nine offer spectacular views of the Ten Mile Range and easy play, while the back nine is situated on narrow strips of the forest and between the remains of Wheeler Junction.
Wheeler Junction was the first western settlement in what is now Copper Mountain. Before it became a world class ski resort in the 1970’s, it was mining boom town that produced the metal the town was renamed for. It was originally named for Judge Wheeler, who founded the place, and the junction of the breathtaking Ten Mile and Gore Mountain ranges where it sat.
Because of the unique scenery and the creative minds who designed it, this course is lovely even if you only walk along as a caddy. The services the club offers are simple, but they take each service seriously and will leave you feeling like the most important golfer on the course. The feeling of the course is relaxed to mesh with mountainous scenery. The dress code even allows t-shirts and denim! The course fees are low; there are several good restaurants within an easy drive of the clubhouse.
If you are looking for a more intense golfing experience, I would recommend the Breckenridge Golf Club. Breckenridge course was designed by a world famous designer Jack Nicklaus with 27 holes total. The original 18 holes are a mix of mountain golfing on a Lynx style course. The newer Elk 9 offer more dramatic elevations changes, making walking a little tougher and golf a real workout.
The dress code and fees are bit stiffer, but you can still wear your jeans to the course. Breckenridge golf club as a number of high class amenities as well. For example the Club 28 Restaurant offers a full menu and bar. Their cart service will bring hot food or box lunches out to you on the course, and the bar will be there for nibbles and a cocktail after your round is over.
The Breckenridge Golf Club Pro Shop offers a selection of the best equipment available as well as logo clothing and gifts. The shop has been listed as one of the top 100 pro shops in the country by Breckenridge Golf Shop Operations eight times. While you are at the pro shop, you may want to consider shopping for a pro as well. The instructors are at the top of their classes and can assist you with perfecting your technique in a sand bunker or get you started on the driving range for the very first time.
