Soon, it may be easier to find open houses in Breckenridge
A group of real estate agents have petitioned Breckenridge town council to allow them to put up signs directing people to open houses. They submitted 30 letters showing support for their cause.
Currently, and for more than 10 years, the town code has only allowed a single “open house†sign on the property for sale. It doesn’t permit any other signs directing drivers through twists and turns of neighborhoods. As a result, people driving down Highway 9 or Main Street wouldn’t know where open houses deeper within the neighborhood were.
Most real estate agents believe the signs create interest and direct potential buyers to properties for sale they might not otherwise find, because walking into an open house tends to be less intimidating than walking into a real estate office.
Town council and staff are now looking at solutions for signage, perhaps coming up with a policy, which allows signs that fit a particular standard (such as no logos). They mentioned not allowing additional signs in the historic district, and having agents work with each other, so that multiple signs from different agents don’t show up on the same corner, pointing people in the same direction.
Though it’s uncertain what the exact code will be, the bottom line is: Breckenridge is changing the code to help potential buyers find homes easier, and real estate agents appeal to a broader market.
(Meanwhile, other towns in Summit County do allow multiple open house signs to direct drivers to a property.)
