BUILDER : LEVEL ONE BUILDING COMPANY, INC
This home was in Parade of Homes 2008
DESCRIPTION:
Sun, views and privacy make up the setting for this beautifully detailed custom home for a longtime local family. Owner and architect Robert Dickson, principal of Equinox Architecture, along with builder Level One Building Company, Inc. and a team of talented craftsmen, have created an exciting and artistic home. As with all Equinox Architecture projects, the inspiration for this floor plan is the exquisite site itself. Situated on a secluded cul-de-sac in the Highlands at Breckenridge, the property offers stunning views of Peak 8, all-day sun and privacy. The plan was designed to offer incredible views from every room, with a seamless flow that strengthens the connection between the indoors and outdoors. The house is very efficient, with 3,500 square feet of livable space that feels much larger due to the open floor plan. Custom, creative and unique detailing and materials adorn every room, including the garage. The owners were particularly interested in experimenting with beetle kill pine as a material. Pine trees killed by the bark beetle were used as structural log columns, while custom milled beetle kill pine T&G was extensively used for vaulted ceilings and wainscots. Other materials of interest include railings made from cable from a retired Breckenridge Ski Area ski lift, as well as custom milled rough spruce from a 30-inch tree from the owner’s yard. The house also features passive solar design with super-insulated walls and a state-of-the-art fresh air exchange system. The juxtaposition of handcrafted rustic and contemporary materials work together with a harmony of choices that complement each other. The owners would like to thank Level One Building Company, Inc. for its excellence and professionalism. The process of building a home can often be difficult and stressful, and Level One made this project easy, fun and stress free. Thanks also to the many creative tradesmen who helped the architect-owner realize his design vision.
